At City Council, we began with updates from our committees. Our infrastructure committee said that they got updates on the Legends of Artesia development near Jaycee Park. Progress is being made and work should begin on that development shortly.
Then the council accepted a donation of $38,000 from HF Sinclair. The money will go towards improvements to the baseball and softball fields at Jaycee Park. We’d like to thank everyone involved for this contribution to our community.
Next our infrastructure director gave us an update. On Friday when our crews were about to begin salting the roads, a conveyer belt on our truck broke. With some quick engineering the truck was repaired and crews were able to salt the roads in town. The truck was purchased in 2005 and is nearing the end of its lifecycle. We would also like to thank Eddy County for lending us vehicles to help with salting over the weekend.
Finally, the council approved a public celebration permit. The permit is for the dueling pianos event at the Ocotillo tomorrow night. The permit approval means that they will be allowed to sell alcohol during the event. Cocktail hour will start at 5:30 and the show will begin at 7. The event is for ages 21 and up.
This has been your city council recap. We hope you join us for our next meeting February 10th at City Hall.
