[ARCHIVED] October Declared as Domestic Violence Awareness Month

On October 3rd, Mayor Henry
signed a proclamation declaring October 2025 as Domestic Violence AwarenessMonth.

The proclamation
calls for citizens to recognize the signs of abuse, support survivors, speakout against domestic violence, and create a community where every person can
live free from violence and fear. 

Staff and board members from Grammy'sHouse were on hand for the proclamation. We'd like to thank them for their work
in our community to serve those impacted by domestic violence.

The full text of theproclamation can be read below:

WHEREAS, domestic violence is an often hidden
issue that affects individuals and families in every community; and

WHEREAS, domestic violence tragically turnsmany homes into places of torment disrupting the theory that our homes should
be places of safety, comfort, and refuge; and

WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any group, they are prevalent in every community regardless of age, socio-economic status, gender, religion, or nationality; and

WHEREAS, survivors of domestic violence oftenface significant barriers in seeking safety and support, including fear,
isolation, stigma, and lack of resources; and

WHEREAS, we must continue to build alliances among governments, community associations, businesses, education and religious organizations to strengthen our families and teach alternatives to violence; and

WHEREAS, Grammy’s House has served the Artesiacommunity with compassion and commitment by providing emergency shelter,
advocacy, counseling, safety planning, legal support, and education toindividuals and families impacted by domestic violence; and

NOW THEREFORE, I, Jon Henry, Mayor of the City of Artesia, New Mexico, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2025 as:

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

and urge all
citizens to recognize the signs of abuse, support survivors, speak out againstdomestic violence, and work together to create a community where every person
can live free from violence and fear.
