8-12 City Council

For a written recap, read below.

At the latest City Council meeting, they started by approving requests to use city facilities. These requests included approval for Red Dirt Black Gold to take place from September 11-13th. Another request was approved for Artesia Clean and Beautiful to host a dedication for the new Eagle Draw Community Mural. That event will take place August 16th

Next the council directed staff to draft a sublease agreement for Skydive New Mexico to be at the Artesia airport during the National Championship Air Races. The skydiving will be another event to do in town during Red Dirt Black Gold.

After that, the council approved an agreement to receive state money for four projects in town. Money was given to Artesia for our inclusive park project, the renovation of city hall, as well as the purchase of police vehicles, and a fire engine.

Then we got an update on some of the billing issues we’ve had lately at City Hall. We’re updating our billing software and troubles with the updates and network issues meant our billing was down for a little bit. We have since got back online and are working on catching up on the billing. The next few bills sent out will cover 45 days of service to get back on schedule. The most recent update was the final phase of the overall software update. As such, we don’t anticipate any more billing interruptions. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Finally, we heard from our Senior Center Director who told us about the center’s upcoming event for National Senior Citizen Day. The event will take place August 21 from 10-2. The aim of the event is to reach out to people who have not yet been to the senior center. The event is free to get into, those 50 years of age and up are invited to attend. There will be a free lunch at 12. There will also be giveaways, silent bingo, entertainment and more. We hope to see you there.

This has been your city council recap. We hope you join us for our next meeting August 26th at City Hall.
