Evidence And Property
The Artesia Police Department Evidence and Crime Scene Investigations Division contain personnel with expertise and experience in the processing, examination, and interpretation of violent crime scenes. The Crime Scene Investigators receive extensive and in-depth training from world class training organizations that adhere to the International Association for Identification (IAI) guidelines for training. Crime Scene Investigators are members of the IAI and have attained or are currently seeking certification through the IAI as Certified Crime Scene Investigators.
This division is also responsible for the acceptance, proper storage and maintenance of all evidence and property taken into custody by all personnel of the Artesia Police Department.
The division currently has items that have been found and are set for destruction. If you have items that you have lost, please review the following list:
- Bicycles
- Keyes and personal effects
- Flashlights
- Clothing
- Electronics; tablets, phones, chargers, etc.
- Bags; backpacks, purses, totes, etc.
- Hand tools/power tools
- Glasses
- Household items
- Camping/hunting equipment
- Other items that may not be listed in the preceding categories
**To claim found items, you must be able to provide an accurate description of the item and have a picture ID** You must make an appointment for pickup. This allows time for paperwork to be completed and have items ready when you arrive.
Division personnel can be contacted at 575-746-5018. If the phone is not answered, please leave a message. Hours for pick up are Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Other arrangements can be made if necessary.
Bring a picture ID with you to obtain your items. There is no charge for this service.
