Clerk / Treasurer
The City Clerk is an officer of the city, appointed by the City Council. The position of City Clerk is a statutory position required by State law. The city clerk serves as the department head for the Finance and Administration Department, Airport, Commission on Aging (Senior Center), Library, and Museum.
The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for:
- Minutes of Council Meetings
- City Ordinance
- City Code
- Resolutions
- Records
- Elections
- Business Registrations and Licenses
- Miscellaneous Permits
City Council Meetings
The agendas and council packets for each council meeting are prepared by the Mayor’s Office. To request to be on the agenda, please contact the Mayor’s Office.
The City Clerk attends every meeting of the City Council and prepares the minutes of the proceedings. The city clerk also maintains all ordinances and resolutions of the governing body.
City Ordinances & Resolutions
Ordinances represent the laws of Artesia and are codified into the City Code. City Code books are also available for review at the Public Library. Resolutions are statements of policy of the City Council. Copies are available for review in the city clerk’s office.
Miscellaneous Permits
The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for the issuance of certain permits for various operations within the City of Artesia, including garage sales, solicitors, pet licenses, public dances, and taxi services. Applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office.
