The City of Artesia staffs two full time Animal Control Officers. An Animal Control Officer is available during regular business hours and are on call for after hours emergencies.

The officers are responsible for picking up stray, feral, injured and dead animals including dogs, cats and occasionally snakes, birds and skunks. Animal Control is also responsible for keeping the streets safe from vicious animals.

Traps are available for the public to use to catch animals running loose that cannot otherwise be easily picked up by Animal Control.
